FAQs
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. PDF to Text runs entirely in your browser using pdf.js, so your document never leaves your device.
What kind of text can this tool extract?
It extracts the embedded text layer of a PDF. Scanned or image-based PDFs without a text layer will return little or no text.
Does this tool perform OCR?
No. Handio does not run optical character recognition. If your PDF is scanned, you will need a dedicated OCR tool to recover the text.
Why is the text spacing a little unusual?
PDFs store text as positioned fragments, not flowing paragraphs. Complex layouts such as columns and tables can produce odd spacing and line breaks.

- Make a PDF's contents searchable and editable in a text editor or spreadsheet.
- Pull raw text out of reports and papers for analysis, translation or summarising.
Tips and Limits
PDF to Text extracts the embedded text layer using pdf.js, so it is fast and private, but it does not run OCR. Scanned documents will return little or no text, and complex layouts such as multi-column pages or tables may come out with unusual spacing.
