How do I find X percent of a number?
Use the first row: enter the percentage as X and the number as Y. The row shows the product, for example 15% of 200 = 30.
How do I find what percent one number is of another?
Enter the part as X and the whole as Y. That row divides X by Y and multiplies by 100, so 50 is 25% of 200.
How is percentage change calculated?
Enter the starting value as X and the new value as Y. The change row computes (Y - X) / X x 100: a positive result is an increase and a negative one a decrease.
Why do some answers show a dash?
A row shows a dash when its formula would divide by zero, for example asking what percent 0 is of 0. The other rows keep working.
What is the difference between percentage change and percentage difference?
Percentage change is directional: it compares a new value against an old value. Percentage difference is symmetric: it compares two values against their average, so neither number is treated as the starting point.
How do I find the original number before a percentage was applied?
Use the last row: enter the part as X and the percentage as Y. For example, if 30 is 15% of a total, the total is 200. That is handy for finding a price before tax or a discount.
